Peat Swamp Forest Rehabilitation and Planting in Thailand

In Thailand, the rehabilitation and planting of peat swamp forests have been the focus of various collaborative projects and initiatives. The lack of knowledge and skills in peat swamp forest restoration techniques has been identified as a challenge, prompting the implementation of projects aimed at conservation and development. One such project, the "Maximizing Carbon Sink Capacity and Conserving Biodiversity through Restoration and Management of Peat-swamp Ecosystems Project," was carried out in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Office of Natural Resources, Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), and other organizations. Additionally, a wildlife sanctuary area has been declared in a 200 sq. km area of the Pru Toh Daeng peat swamp in Narathiwat province, reflecting the efforts to conserve and rehabilitate these valuable ecosystems. The initiatives have involved the participation of various stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, universities, and non-governmental organizations, with the aim of sharing knowledge and experiences to support the restoration and sustainable management of peat swamp forests in Thailand.
