Catchment management for optimum use of land and water resources in Thailand

The catchment management policy of Thailand consists of the simultaneous development of both natural resources and social complexes within the catchment. The functions under natural resources development comprises: land classification, rehabilitation of damaged areas, management of existing forests, fire protection, agro-forestry, extension and public relations etc.; while those under socio-economic development comprise: resettlement, access roads, agriculture, horticulture, irrigation, education, medical care, marketing, other welfare activities etc. Describes how land classification is carried out in Thailand. -ESCAP
