Indonesia faces uncertain future

Pulp makers in Indonesia are concerned over the unsustainable raw material harvests as well as the continuing illegal logging and the worsening social and political conflict in the region. In addition, forest fires have flared up across Indonesia due to reckless land conversion to oil palm plantations. Indonesia now ranks second only to Russia in a recent country-risk rating which reflected its scant political instability, weak monetary and regulatory policies and high business investment risks.
