Some important features of 10 selected rehabilitation projects in Indonesia are described: (1) Collaborative forest management project in West Java; (2) Community rehabilitation project of the specified allocated funds - restoration funds in Kampar, Riau; (3) Community rehabilitation project of the specified allocated funds - restoration funds in West Kutai; (4) Conserving a national park project in Jember District, East Java; (5) Rehabilitation of logged-over areas project in Riau; (6) Participatory reforestation project in Sanggau District, West Kalimantan; (7) Rehabilitation of fire-affected forests project in East Kalimantan; (8) Watershed protection project in Wonogiri, Central Java; (9) Mechanized plantation project in South Kalimantan; and (10) Farm forestry project in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. The impacts of the rehabilitation projects on land productivity, ecology, community livelihood, the community's access rights to forest resources and conflicts, and community participation are discussed. The evolution of the rehabilitation initiatives from top-down to participatory approaches and its impacts are also discussed. Finally, the lessons learned from the 10 rehabilitation projects are given.
