tce: Asia: Palm mill waste generates power for Malaysia

Malaysia may help rural palm oil mills generate energy from waste. The country's 411 palm oil mills could process mill effluent into biogas and burn it to produce electricity for rural communities. Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok believes that it would make sense for mills to supply energy to the sparsely-populated interior of Sabah state where the government has pledged to bring electricity to villages and townships. The government would assist the mills in connecting to the electricity grid and would consider increasing a green energy tariff to incentivize mill owners to invest in electricity generation from waste.
