There will be many headaches ahead as business navigates the perils of palm oil

Biodiesel from palm oil is not the solution to carbon emission problems. The problem is that, as the demand for palm oil increases, the tropical forest is losing oil palm at an alarming rate especially in Indonesia as they are the biggest producer. The skies across Southeast Asia were filled up by smoke as 97,000km2 of forest were destroyed by deliberate fires. Policies are now controlling the use of biofuel as countries will eventually loss all tropical forests. Thus, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) promotes the growth and use of sustainable palm oil. Both the government and businesses alike should respond to this issue as one form of solution maybe the total ban of using palm oil for biofuel production. But an acceptable policy perhaps is to have palm oil in a sustainable way. Corporations should also operate in a responsible and sustainable manner so as to help address the issue.
